Last night’s Showcase Event
We would like to give all our thanks to the startups that exhibited at last night’s Showcase event, the mountain of work that went into preparing for it was very noticeable. Hopefully everyone came away with some useful feedback from our judges and visitors to your stands.
For those that couldn’t make it, you missed quite an event! Simon and Robin from the Rapid Innovation Group stunned the audience with intense and thought provoking talks. You can see the talks and the ustream recording (also below) on the speakers page.
While the speeches took place, our Showcase judges found a quiet spot to consider all they’d seen, then returned to the stage to announce the results:
Finally, thanks to everyone that came along and supported the exhibitors, especially our sponsors Viadeo and Paypal. We hope you enjoyed the evening and look forward to seeing you at the next event!

From 5 pm today 18 startups will be exhibiting and demonstrating their products to the public. Many of these startups have never exhibited before.
We will also have over 30 past mentors, speakers, and sponsors from Launch48 attending, as well as some esteemed guests who together make up a serious portion of the London technology scene elite.
It is our hope that by mixing the startups with experienced and connected people both parties will gain opportunities they wouldn’t have otherwise had.
To top off the evening we have 2 guest speakers discussing how to take a startup to the next level. They will discuss scaling your business and how to do it.
Following this we have 5 fantastic awards that will be given out by knowledgeable judges. It is our hope these awards will help offer valuable feedback to the startups exhibiting through the judges’ commentary, as well as recognition for the winners. Maybe the winners can use the awards as a way to open new doors and expose new opportunities?

That’s right – Launch48 is coming to London from Friday September 24th to Sunday September 26th. We will be running the Launch48 Conference on Friday, then the Weekend will begin that evening with pitches and team formation.
We have given our speakers at the Launch48 Conference “Top Tips for Entrepreneurs” as a working theme. This week you should see a further announcement posted here that will include our first set of speakers – giving you a better idea of what’s ahead.
The Launch48 Weekend is a fast paced experience, encouraging participants to learn, network and collaboratively create a new and exciting web or mobile application. This is not just a developer hack day, the aim is to create a real business. From pitching on the Friday evening to the final presentations on Sunday evening, you will work tirelessly with your team to produce a working prototype of your application and plan an initial trajectory for the company – drafting a business plan and revenue model.

Viadeo is supporting us again, having previously sponsored Newspepper’s coverage of the closing presentations at a Launch48 weekend. Viadeo is a professional social network, expanding globally and adapting locally in competition with platforms like LinkedIn.
I went to see the Viadeo team last week at their Southbank offices to determine exactly why it was that they wish to support our Showcase. I am pleased to say they had a decent answer.
With the API that Viadeo offers, developers can create applications to cater to the platform’s 30 million global members, spread across 226 countries.
Viadeo has great traction globally, in fact it is seeing the largest growth as a professional network in Europe and emerging markets. The company secured investment and acquired local professional networks such as Tianji in China. Now Viadeo is set to pursue an open strategy allowing third parties to create value for users.
Viadeo’s COO recently spoke at Plugg 2010 about social networking for business, check out the video here, there are some interesting insights about emerging markets and the future of networks.
Not all of the benefits to joining a professional social network are obvious, so raising awareness about those in graduate, startup and SME circles is the current focus for the business and communications team at Viadeo. With the recession weighing on everyone’s minds like a nasty hangover, it’s worth looking at who in your network might lend you a helping hand.

Wow! Over 15 startups have applied to exhibit at the Launch48 Showcase event on 2nd September 2010 at PayPal’s office in Richmond. We are so excited to have had such a great response from the startup community and we are looking forward to learning more about these businesses on the night.
To help set people’s expectations, Launch48 has put together the following tasters to help attendees decide if this event is for them:
Past Launch48 Attendees: Meet your past team members, see how the teams and attendees have progressed since when you last met them, hear a great talk from the Rapid Innovation Group, and catch up with past speakers, sponsors and mentors.
Never attended Launch48: Come and learn what Launch48 is about, meet people interested in starting their own business, network with new startups.
Investors: We have brought over 15 of the latest startups together, some who haven’t started speaking with investors yet, to exhibit for one evening only. The event will be a great place to speak with entrepreneurs – seasoned and upcoming.
Suppliers: Are you looking to work with new startups? Our attendees are interested to hear about products or services designed for new web and mobile businesses and entrepreneurs. Meet and market your products over a drink.
To attend you need to purchase a ticket (hurry, they are going fast). We hope to see you there!
The following businesses have applied to exhibit, for more information on all the businesses exhibiting please see our exhibitors page.
